It was announced that former New England Patriots player, Aaron Hernandez had committed suicide by hanging. The Massachusetts Department of Corrections announced that Hernandez, “hanged himself utilizing a bed sheet that he attached to his cell window.” It says he also tried to block his door from the inside by jamming it with several items. Hernandez was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after 4 a.m. ET.
Hernandez was serving life in prison for the 2013 murder of Odin Lloyd. Ironically before all of this happened, he was acquitted of fatally shooting two men outside a Boston nightclub in 2012 last week.
The former University of Florida began his NFL career as a fourth round draft pick with the Patriots in 2010. Hernandez took the Patriots to Super Bowl XLVI and scored a touchdown during the game. The Patriots lost to the Giants 21-17.
He leaves behind a four-year-old daughter Avielle Janelle Jenkins-Hernandez. The Patriots are visiting the White House today in honor of their Super Bowl LI victory. No one knows why he decided to do this but we will keep you posted on updates.
